College Football Season comes to a close

After one heck of a season in college football it finally comes to a close. The Ohio State Buckeyes are champs. At the record of 14-1. The Buckeyes started off the season with a win and then finished week two and wanted to forget about the loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies at home. The loss to Virginia Tech helped Ohio State prove that one loss can be put behind and can do the unpredictable.

Ohio State did what no other team has done to Oregon and that was shut them down on all sides of the ball. Oregon, who has one of the nations toughest, fastest, strongest, and best offenses was totally stopped on third down by Ohio State. Oregon was 2 of 12 on third down conversions and out rushed by nearly double.

Next season will be exciting as now Ohio State will need to start thinking about who their starting quarterback will be and worrying about the first game in Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia.

College Football Playoff Tough to Determine best teams

This week is the final stretch of the college football season as this week is championship week. This weekend there are seven conference championship games which will help decide the top four teams to the new postseason playoff.

The College Football Playoff can be tough to predict if they would rather see a team that won their conference, but played an easy out of conference schedule. This weekend the only match ups that people will be watching are the Southeastern Conference Championship game which is between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Missouri Tigers in Atlanta, Georgia. This is early big favorite for the Tide as the line is 14.5 points in favor of the Tide. Missouri has had two bad losses this season to Indiana and Georgia. Indiana is a team that you as an SEC school should never lose too unless it is basketball season.

Last year’s national champion, Florida State looks to extend the winning streak as they face the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship game. Georgia Tech has a really strong quarterback that if given a lot of room and time he will run all over your defense. Meanwhile, the Florida State Seminoles look for their 29th win in a row and this streak started back in 2012 as the Seminoles defeated the Yellow Jackets in the ACC Championship game.

Championship weekend is kicked off on Friday night with a west coast rematch between the Arizona Wildcats and the Oregon Ducks. In the first game between these two schools the Arizona Wildcats shut down the Ducks, forced two turnovers, and held Oregon to a season low 24 points. This game is important for both teams if they want to have any chance of getting into the playoff.

Harrisonburg- Turner Ashby Rivalry

This year the classic rivalry between two great football programs in the past will be more than just a win, but it will be a fight for who gets their second win of the season.

Harrisonburg has been led by junior running back Devin Medley all season long and if the team wants to win they will need to be able to stop Turner Ashby and be able to move the ball and put points on the board. Both teams have struggled to do all so far this season which will make this a classic.

This rivalry has been one to remember since for both teams they both haven’t had a winning record since 2009. This will be a good game since it is ranked in the top 20 rivalries in the state and the last three meeting have come down to who puts one more good drive together and wins by one possession.

Harrisonburg has won 14 of the last 18 meetings and hasn’t lost two in a row since in over ten years. In last year’s match up the Streaks held it close, but Turner Ashby was too much to handle as the Knights pulled away 48-36. This year’s match up should be the same way high scoring and will come down to who has a better final drive.
